Since
1951, Los Angeles choreographer Valentina Oumansky has created half a
dozen concert works to the inspiring music of Alan Hovhaness. His
mystical score for The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam marks the first one
Oumansky has choreovidscripted for video. Acclaimed English actor
Michael York narrates. Artist Giotta Tajiri painted the seven Ethereal
Eyescapes, which lure us into Omar’s dream. The combined efforts of
these international artists bring into focus a dramatic dance portrait
of Persian poet and tentmaker Omar Khayyam. Included in the cast is
Tarumi Inouye, who—together with her mother Valentina—helps every month
to make this poetry reading possible!
